A youth-led movement

Bleeding disorders aren't funny.
But it's kind of funny how it works!

Hi! My name is Vasudha Madhusudhan, and I'm a high schooler with Von Willebrand Disease Type 3, a rare bleeding disorder that not everyone knows I have. FunnyBlood is my project to help raise awareness for invisible diseases, whether that's in school, in women's health, or in developing countries where treatments are difficult to access.

Hi! I'm Clotty!

What FunnyBlood is about

Three things I care about, and three ways that you can help this mission.

Young women's health

Heavy menstrual periods are the most common symptom of von Willebrand disease in women. But, the struggles these individuals face are overlooked and are always described as "normal". These comments make the women with heavy periods wait too long for their diagnosis. Let's change that.

Invisible illnesses at school

Bleeding disorders, diabetes, Crohn's disease, these are just a few examples of the invisible illnesses that cause some students to fight battles no one can see. We can help everyone understand what these individuals are going through.

Everyone deserves care no matter where they are

In so many parts of the world, such as South Asia and much of Africa, kids with bleeding disorders have little to no access to treatment. We will raise money to be able to help them get what they need, for now through trusted organizations.

Our global mission โ†’

Why this matters

A few very important numbers to keep in mind.

~1 in 100 people are estimated to have von Willebrand disease, and most don't even know they do
16 Years is the average of how long women wait for a bleeding disorder diagnosis from the time they noticed symptoms
75% of people with bleeding disorders worldwide receive little to no treatment

Why "FunnyBlood"?

Even though my blood doesn't work the way it's supposed to, that doesn't mean that it takes away from having a fun life! Sure, it might mean that I'm not completely "normal", but it's important to always be thankful and have fun, because me and many others have what it takes to fight these battles that are thrown at us. It's always super fun to form a community that can connect and relate with each other!
